Hey there, I am Noibedya!

It’s pronounced as Noy-BED-yah.

I also go by the name GeekRay. It’s my pen name as an illustrator.

Why product design?

I design for people who are stressed, in a hurry, or reading in their second language. I also freelance as GeekRay, turning good ideas into shippable products.

I grew up in Bogura, in the north of Bangladesh, a few minutes' walk from the Karatoya river. I came to design in a roundabout way: a computer science degree, then a post-graduate certificate in 3D animation, then one in visual effects. I never really dropped any of it. I still think in systems, I still want things to move well, and I'm still drawing the same handful of characters I started years ago, mostly because I haven't gotten tired of them yet.

I care about designing for people who are stressed, in a hurry, on an unfamiliar product, or reading in their second language. That last one is personal. I've sat on the other side of a badly designed form, trying to fit my name into a field that was too short for it. Good design isn't just clean or simple. It's about not making someone feel like an afterthought.

Outside of work I'm usually making something: characters, devotional music, or some new visual idea I want to try. Lately it's been French, one stubborn verb at a time.
